Nairobi, Kenya – Kenya winger Boniface Muchiri has received a promotion in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) following his impressive performances at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

The Ulinzi Stars captain has moved from Senior Private to Corporal, an advancement recognising both his commitment on the pitch and dedication to the military. Muchiri played a key role as the Harambee Stars reached the CHAN quarter-finals, contributing two crucial assists during Kenya’s maiden campaign.

The promotion ceremony took place at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, led by Major General Luka Kutto and presided over by Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri, who applauded Muchiri’s dual achievements.

“We are very proud of your hard work and performance, serving both Kenya and the KDF. We are confident you will continue to excel,” said the CDF.

Muchiri’s rise followed a special request from Harambee Stars captain Aboud Omar to President William Ruto, highlighting the winger’s service to football and the military.

“It is a huge honour to be recognised by the KDF. Discipline and hard work have guided me to this stage, and this recognition motivates me even more,” Muchiri said.

Having joined the KDF in late 2021 after leaving Tusker FC, Muchiri has become a cornerstone for the national team and the military. His promotion now serves as an inspiration for all sportsmen and women in uniform, reflecting the KDF’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence.
