Senegal Beat Sudan on Penalties to Claim CHAN 2024 Bronze

Sports Hunter South Sudan - 29th Aug, 2025 By Emmanuel Patrick Laku

Senegal held their nerve in a tense penalty shootout to defeat Sudan 4-2 and clinch the bronze medal at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Sudan got off to a dream start in the 6th minute when Muhammad Tia Asad rose highest to head home an Abdelrazig Omer cross.

The Falcons of Jeddiane maintained their lead until the second half, when Seyni Ndiaye leveled matters in the 58th minute with a powerful header from Ousseynou Fall Seck’s pinpoint delivery.

A mix-up between goalkeeper Al Nur and defender Yaser Boshara opened the door for Senegal’s equalizer.

With no winner after 90 minutes, the match went to penalties.

Sudan stumbled early as Walieldin Khidir and Musab Makeen failed to convert. Senegal took advantage, and Libasse Gueye coolly slotted home the decisive spot-kick to hand the Teranga Lions a 4-2 victory in the shootout and a third-place finish.
