Young Legend Football Academy kicked off their U15 Championship campaign with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Al Amal Sports Academy in the opening fixture of the tournament, organized by the Teenagers, Youngsters and Youth Association of Central Equatoria State.
Al Amal Strike First
The game began with Al Amal showing early intent. Winger Abdallah Mohamed Abdallah outpaced the Young Legend defenders before calmly slotting the ball home to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Young Legend responded strongly and had the perfect chance to level before halftime when defender Samuel Loro fouled Abraham Chol inside the penalty area. Stephen Lomude stepped up to take the spot-kick, but his effort was denied by a brilliant save from Al Amal goalkeeper Arop Peter Arop, leaving Al Amal ahead at the break.
Young Legend Fight Back
After the restart, coach Mourinho Joseph’s side pushed hard for an equalizer. Their persistence was rewarded when George Lomude hammered a powerful left-footed strike into the bottom corner following a rebound from a corner kick, making it 1-1.
With momentum on their side, Young Legend continued to pile pressure on Al Amal. The breakthrough finally came in stoppage time when the youngest player on the pitch, 14-year-old Deng Deng, stole the spotlight. Deng latched onto a precise cross from substitute Moses Juma and finished brilliantly from a tight angle to secure all three points for his side.
Player of the Match
Following the final whistle, Deng Deng was named Player of the Match for his decisive goal and outstanding performance, showing maturity beyond his years.
Group H Standings
The late winner ensured Young Legend began their Group H journey on top with three points, while Al Amal sit bottom of the five-team group.
The U15 Championship has brought together 40 academies, with Future Stars Football Academy withdrawing at the last minute for undisclosed reasons. Matches are scheduled every Saturday and Sunday, both morning and evening, across various playgrounds in Juba.
