Wajuma FC kicked off their 2025/2026 South Sudan Premier League season with a commanding statement, hammering northern rivals Salam FC Aweil 5-1 in an action-packed Week One derby played on Tuesday.

The match belonged to one man — Akot Akot — who delivered a stunning super hat-trick, scoring four goals to power Wajuma to the top end of the early league standings.

First-Half Brilliance from Akot

Akot Akot lit up the first half with two goals in quick succession, scoring in the 44th and 45th minutes to put Wajuma in full control before the break. His finishing was clinical, leaving the Salam defense and goalkeeper helpless as the Lions roared into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.

Second-Half Dominance

The second half continued in the same vein. John Agak added the third goal in the 79th minute, tapping in from close range. Salam FC Aweil responded almost immediately through Mohamed Gafar, who pulled one back in the 80th minute with a well-taken consolation.

But there was no stopping Akot Akot. The forward completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute, and added a fourth in stoppage time (90+4'), sealing one of the most dominant derby performances in recent memory.

Early League Standings

The victory propels Wajuma FC into 2nd place on the SSPL table with 3 points and a +4 goal difference. Salam FC Aweil drop to 13th, second from bottom, with a goal difference of -4 after the opening week.

Head-to-Head and Last Season Recap

This win builds on Wajuma’s upward trajectory. Last season, Wajuma FC finished 7th with 35 points, while Salam Aweil were just behind in 8th with 34 points. The margin might have been narrow last season, but Wajuma made sure there was no doubt in this encounter.
