Juba, South Sudan – The much-anticipated 2025/2026 South Sudan Premier League season is set to officially kick off on Friday, September 13, with defending champions Jamus SC Juba facing league newcomers Al Ghazala FC from Wau in the season opener at 3:00 PM at Juba National Stadium.
The excitement continues on Saturday, September 14, with a heated Juba Derby clash between Atlabara FC and Kator FC, scheduled for 1:00 PM at the same venue.
This season marks the second edition of the South Sudan Premier League, following its historic inaugural campaign last year, which saw Jamus SC go unbeaten to claim the first-ever national title.
Juba: The Heart of South Sudanese Football
Despite the league drawing clubs and players from various states across the country, all matches will once again be played in Juba.
This decision is largely driven by the lack of adequate sports infrastructure and ongoing security concerns in several regions.
Juba National Stadium remains the only reliable and secure facility capable of hosting Premier League matches under the required standards.
Clubs Gearing Up for Battle
Reigning champions Jamus SC, coached by Brazilian Heron Ricardo, will be looking to defend their crown and build on last season’s unbeaten run.
Their first test comes against Al Ghazala FC, a spirited side from Wau making their debut in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Atlabara FC, under new head coach Bilal Felix, will be eager to make a strong start against city rivals Kator FC in what promises to be a fierce derby showdown.
A League of Unity and Growth
While challenges remain off the pitch, the Premier League continues to serve as a powerful symbol of unity, hope, and national pride. It also provides a vital platform for young talents from all corners of South Sudan to shine.
As the second season kicks off, fans across the country are hopeful for another exciting chapter in the growth of South Sudanese football.
