Cape Verde Edge Cameroon 1-0 in Historic World Cup Qualifier Win

Sports Hunter South Sudan | Praia, Cape Verde –

Dalion Livramento was the difference-maker on Matchday 8 of the CAF 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, as Cape Verde clinched a landmark 1-0 victory over Cameroon at the National Stadium in Praia.

The result not only hands the Blue Sharks their first-ever World Cup qualifying win over the Indomitable Lions—after three losses and a draw—but also propels them a step closer to their World Cup dream.

Livramento’s first-half strike sealed all three points in front of a jubilant home crowd, putting Cape Verde four points clear at the top of Group D.

 Group D Standings Update:

1. Cape Verde: 19 points (6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss)

2. Cameroon: 15 points ( 4 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss)

With two games left to play, Cape Verde needs just one more win to officially punch their ticket to the FIFA World Cup 2026—a historic first-ever appearance on football’s biggest stage.

The pressure now mounts on Cameroon, who will need results elsewhere to keep their qualification hopes alive.
