After a commanding 3-0 win over Comoros on Thursday, September 4, in Morocco, the Mali national team — the Eagles — have safely arrived in Accra, Ghana, for their next critical fixture in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.
The Malian delegation landed at Kotoka International Airport at around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, flying in from Oujda, Morocco. They were warmly received by Mali’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Oumar Konaté, before heading to their base at the Mövenpick Hotel in central Accra.
Showdown Set for Monday
The Eagles will take on the Black Stars of Ghana this Monday, September 8, at 7:00 PM at the Accra Sports Stadium, in what is shaping up to be a pivotal Matchday 8 encounter.
Coach Éric Chelle and his squad are scheduled to hold their final training and pitch familiarization session this evening at 7:00 PM, at the match venue.
Group Standings: High Stakes in Accra
Mali currently sits in 4th place in the group with 13 points, just three points behind leaders Ghana, who top the table with 16 points. A win for the Eagles in Accra would blow the qualification race wide open and potentially catapult them into serious contention for the 2026 World Cup spot.
With both sides eyeing a place on football’s biggest stage, Monday's clash promises to be a thrilling and decisive encounter.
