Senegal Roar Past Sudan to Tighten Group B Race

DIAMNIADIO, Senegal — Senegal took a massive step toward 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification with a commanding 2-0 win over Sudan at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade on Matchday 7 of the African qualifiers.
Goals from Kalidou Koulibaly in the 14th minute and Pape Matar Sarr in the 41st minute were enough to hand the Teranga Lions all three points and deal Sudan their first defeat of the qualifiers.
The result sees Coach Pape Thiaw’s side move to 15 points, just one point behind group leaders DR Congo, with three games left.
It was Senegal’s fourth win in the campaign — and they remain undefeated after seven matches.
Meanwhile, Coach Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan, who had come into the clash unbeaten with three wins and three draws, now remain on 12 points, slipping further behind in the Group B race.
The Falcons of Jediane sit third, now four points away from direct qualification and three points behind the second-place playoff spot.

The race for the top two spots in Group B is heating up, with DR Congo, Senegal, and Sudan all in contention as the final three matchdays approach.
