Supersub Mbappé Steals the Spotlight as Viva Star Secure First Win in Konyokonyo League
Sports Hunter South Sudan - Juba
Viva Star FC’s thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Simba FC Juba on Wednesday wasn’t just about three points — it was the rise of a game-changer. Off the bench and into the spotlight, Mangisto Ceasar, better known as “Mbappé,” delivered the decisive moment of magic that lifted The Fighters to their first win of the 2025 Konyokonyo League season.
Introduced early in the second half with the match tied at 1-1, Mbappé made an instant impact. A seemingly harmless cross from the right wing turned into a nightmare for the Simba goalkeeper, who mishandled the delivery and allowed the ball to trickle into the net — the winning goal.
“I came off the bench, and honestly, I wasn’t even 100%. But the coach kept me out to come in when the time was right — and I thank him for that,” said Mbappé after being awarded Man of the Match by the Juba Joint Fans.
“I want to thank the fans — this award belongs to them. It wasn’t easy, but we fought as a team. The last match, we only got one point against Talanga, and that result wasn’t good for us. Today, I came in with one thing on my mind: take all three points.”
Mbappé also revealed the tactical thinking behind his decisive role, crediting his preparation and awareness on the bench.
“The coach always tells us, ‘Don’t just sit and watch — read the game.’ And that’s what I did. I noticed Simba’s left fullback was struggling, and I told the coach, ‘Let me work that wing, even for 10 minutes.’ He agreed, and I gave it everything.”
“We couldn’t afford to draw again. The team needed a win. I just wanted to help.”
The goal — scrappy or not — proved priceless. Viva Star defended their lead despite late pressure and a red card for Simba FC’s defender Jacob in stoppage time, sealing the win and sending The Fighters to the top of the table with 4 points from two matches.
