Viva Star FC recorded their first victory of the 2025 season in the Juba Football Association First Division League, overcoming Simba FC Juba 2-1 in a tense midweek clash on Wednesday evening at the Buluk Training Center.
Simba FC drew first blood early in the contest after fullback Charles Ogu brought down a Simba forward in the area. Captain Loki Thuar stepped up and confidently converted from the spot, handing the Dababat a 1-0 lead.
But Viva Star responded with intent, gradually asserting control. Their persistence paid off in the 40th minute when forward Riek Pur Jany fired home the equalizer, restoring parity just before the break.
The second half saw a tactical shift from Viva Star, with the introduction of Mangisto Jidu Ceaser, affectionately known as "Mbappé". Just minutes after coming on, Mbappé floated in a routine cross from the right flank—only for the ball to slip through the fingers of the Simba goalkeeper and roll into the net, gifting Viva Star the go-ahead goal in the 60th minute.
Simba FC pushed for a late equalizer, but their hopes were dashed in added time. In the (90+1'), defender Jacob was shown a ssecond yellow and then red card for a tactical foul on a Viva Star forward, halting a dangerous counterattack. The dismissal left Simba with ten men in the dying moments of the match.
Despite a flurry of late pressure from Simba, Viva Star held firm to claim all three points and climb to second on the league table with 4 points from two matches (one win, one draw), boasting a +1 goal difference.
