Juba, South Sudan - 16th March 20026 - Former Yei Joint Stars FC head coach Sony Hariet Alfred is taking a bold step in her coaching journey by enrolling in the prestigious CAF B License course, one of the continent’s top coaching certifications.

The program, which began on 10 November 2025, spans four months of intensive theoretical and practical sessions. The practical exams kicked off today at the Juba National Stadium and will wrap up on Thursday.

Speaking about her participation, Sony highlighted the significance of female representation in coaching:

“As female coaches, we are only three, and while three may not seem like a lot, it’s enough for us to go out and change women’s football.”

Sony, who began her coaching career with Yei Joint Stars Fc, guided the Super Queens to five trophies, including the inaugural South Sudan National Women’s League title. She also had a brief stint with Kator FC Women.

Reflecting on her growth, she paid tribute to her mentor, former South Sudan Women’s National Team coach Shilene Booysen:

“She is my mentor. She shaped me, advised me, and taught me how to become a professional coach. I can’t forget her — she encouraged me a lot, and that’s why I’m still in coaching.”

Sony shared her vision for the future:

“I’m proud to be finalizing my exam. Next, I will focus on building the capacity of female teams. My target is to change women’s football in South Sudan, and I am determined to make a difference.”

The CAF B License will qualify her to coach national teams and clubs across Africa, marking a significant milestone for both her career and the growth of women’s football in South Sudan. Out of over 45 applicants, only 25 coaches were accepted into the course.
