Victor Wanyama Announces Retirement from Football

Juba, South Sudan- 3rd April 2026- kenya’s football icon, Victor Wanyama, has officially announced his retirement from professional football. The midfielder, who starred in six clubs across four countries, began his journey as a boy with a big dream in Muthurwa, Nairobi, and grew to become one of Africa’s most respected players.

In an emotional statement, Wanyama reflected:

"A boy from Muthurwa with a big dream, carrying a nation’s pride every time I stepped onto the pitch. To my family, friends, agent, the fans, and coaching staff who supported me throughout—thank you. My career—thank you for walking this journey with me. I now take my next step into coaching, where I will complete my UEFA A license this year."

Wanyama’s illustrious career includes stints at Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Montreal Impact, and others, winning domestic trophies and earning recognition on the international stage.

 As captain of the Kenyan national team, he became a symbol of resilience, leadership, and ambition, inspiring young African players to pursue their dreams.

His retirement marks the end of an era, but his influence off the pitch continues. Wanyama is now focused on youth development and football mentoring, aiming to nurture the next generation of African talent.
