Jamus Juba Earn CECAFA Kagame Cup Spot After Strong Domestic Campaign

JUBA, South Sudan - Jamus Juba FC will represent South Sudan at this year's CECAFA Kagame Club Championship after receiving approval from the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) Executive Committee.

The decision was confirmed during an emergency Executive Committee meeting held at the federation's headquarters in Juba on Saturday.

Jamus Juba's qualification for the regional tournament comes after a season in which the club emerged as one of the strongest teams in South Sudanese football. The Buffaloes finished second in the South Sudan Premier League but fell short of securing a place in next season's continental competitions.

Their hopes of qualifying for the CAF Champions League ended with their runner-up league finish, while a place in the CAF Confederation Cup slipped away following their elimination in the semi-finals of the domestic cup competition. With Al Ghazal FC Wau, the cup runners-up, set to claim the Confederation Cup berth, Jamus were left without a continental ticket despite an impressive campaign.

Recognizing the club's strong performances throughout the season, the SSFF Executive Committee approved Jamus Juba's participation in the CECAFA Kagame Cup, ensuring the club will still represent South Sudan in regional competition.

The federation stated that "the Executive Committee also approved Jamus Juba's participation in this year's CECAFA Kagame Club Championship" as part of a series of decisions concerning South Sudan's international football engagements.

The upcoming tournament offers Jamus another opportunity to compete beyond South Sudan's borders after their appearance in last season's CAF Champions League. During that campaign, the Juba-based club earned a respectable draw against Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC in Juba before being eliminated in the return leg away from home.

For Jamus Juba, the CECAFA Kagame Cup now presents a chance to build on that international experience and test themselves once again against some of East and Central Africa's top clubs while carrying South Sudan's hopes on the regional stage. 🏆
