Nujoum Jamaric FC head coach John Simon Aban has confirmed that all legal procedures have been finalized to rename the club to Gurei City FC, as the team looks to attract more community support ahead of their debut in the Juba Local League.
In a significant development following their successful promotion to the Juba Local Football Association 1st Division League, Nujoum Jamaric FC is undergoing a major rebranding. Head coach John Simon Aban revealed the news after his team edged Al Rabita FC 1-0 in the second leg of the promotion/relegation playoff on Tuesday, 13th May 2025, at Bulluk Playground in Juba.
“This team from today onward, maybe will be changed to the name of an area—not bad,” Aban told reporters after the game.
He explained that the rebranding to Gurei City FC is aimed at attracting support from the local community, something he believes is vital for the club’s survival and growth.
The coach, who described himself as a "one-man team" handling coaching, kit management, and other responsibilities, said the decision was made out of necessity.
“I can no longer support the club alone. It needs support from the community—just like Atlabara or Kator, which are tied to specific areas,” he emphasized.
Aban confirmed that the name change will be effective starting June 2025, marking the end of the Nujoum Jamaric FC era and the beginning of Gurei City FC.
The club secured its spot in the prestigious Konyokonyo League—the top tier of the Juba Local League—for the first time in its history after finishing 4th in the 2nd Division and defeating Al Rabita FC with a 3-1 aggregate score over two legs in the promotion/relegation playoff.
As Gurei City FC steps into a new chapter, both the players and fans are hopeful that the change will usher in better support, stability, and success in the upcoming 2025/2026 season.
