Brazzaville Hosts FIVB Level 3 Coaches Course to Boost Volleyball Development in Africa

BRAZZAVILLE, Congo – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), in collaboration with the Congolese Volleyball Federation (FECOVO), has launched a Level 3 Coaches Course in Brazzaville, bringing together 28 participants from West, Central and North Africa as part of efforts to strengthen volleyball development across the continent.

The eight-day training programme, running from June 1 to June 8, combines theoretical and practical sessions designed to enhance coaching expertise and align participants with the FIVB’s development vision for volleyball between 2026 and 2032.

The course was officially opened in the presence of Congolese sports officials, including Director General of Sports Robert Bindele, CNOSC representative Jean-Claude Itoua, Departmental Director of Sports Parfait Malonga and league president Blaise Ngamba.

Participants began with classroom sessions at the Alphonse Massamba-DΓ©bat Stadium, focusing on coaching principles and modern training methodologies before moving to practical exercises at the Henri ElendΓ© Gymnasium, where they worked on serving, reception and setting techniques.

The programme is being led by German FIVB instructor Peter Nonnenbroich, assisted by Cameroonian expert Guy RenΓ© Atanga and FECOVO Technical Director Marien Ibata.

FECOVO President Mopita hailed the initiative, describing it as a milestone for Congolese volleyball.

“The development and promotion of volleyball, as well as the training of technical personnel, remain a priority for our national federations,” he said.

He also highlighted the need for coaches to adapt to the sport’s evolving technical demands through continuous education and professional development.

Meanwhile, CNOSC representative Jean-Claude Itoua emphasized that the course aims to strengthen coaching methodologies and improve the competitiveness of both national teams and clubs.

Director General of Sports Robert Bindele welcomed the FIVB initiative, noting that modern sport requires continuous learning, technical expertise and high-level coaching standards.

The Level 3 Coaches Course is expected to play a key role in raising the quality of volleyball across Africa and developing a new generation of coaches capable of competing on the continental and international stage.
