El Merriekh SC Bentiu Sign Kenya International Erick Otieno

Juba, South Sudan — South Sudan Premier League and South Sudan Cup champions El Merriekh SC Bentiu have completed the signing of Kenya international Erick Otieno on a two-year contract.

The reigning South Sudan champions confirmed the arrival of the Kenyan defender from Shabana FC through the club's official Facebook page as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

 "The Pride of Bentiu is delighted to welcome Kenyan international Erick Otieno to the club from Shabana FC on a two-year contract. Welcome to the family, Erick!" the club said in a statement.

Otieno arrives with international experience for Kenya and is expected to bolster El Merriekh's squad as the club prepares for the upcoming domestic season and regional competitions.

The signing is part of El Merriekh's busy transfer window as the Bentiu-based side looks to build on its historic 2025/26 campaign, in which it won the South Sudan Premier League, South Sudan Cup, and South Sudan Super Cup.

The acquisition of the Kenyan international further underlines the club's ambition to remain among the leading teams in South Sudan and make a strong impact in regional competitions.

South Sudan former interim head coach Cyprian Ashu believes the Bright Stars can challenge for qualification in Group B of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2027 qualifiers despite being drawn against Egypt, Angola and Malawi.
