The Gambia made a commanding start to their 2026 CAVB Zone II Indoor Volleyball Qualifiers campaign, defeating Guinea-Bissau in straight sets on home soil in Banjul.

Backed by a passionate crowd at Stadium Hall, the hosts dominated from start to finish, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.

Gambia took control early through strong serving and disciplined defensive play, claiming the opening set 25-16 before overwhelming Guinea-Bissau 25-12 in the second. The Scorpions maintained their momentum in the third set, sealing the sweep with a 25-15 win.

The result sees Gambia collect maximum points and move level with Senegal on three points at the top of the standings after the opening day of competition.

The Scorpions will look to continue their impressive form when they face Cape Verde on Friday.
