Malawi's Eness Gumbo Appointed VAR Official for WAFCON 2026

 


Malawian match official Eness Gumbo has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to serve as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) official at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

As part of the tournament preparations, Gumbo will participate in the second WAFCON preparation course scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 25 to 30 June 2026. The training programme is aimed at equipping match officials with the latest technical and operational requirements ahead of Africa’s premier women’s football tournament.

The appointment marks another milestone for Malawian officiating on the continental stage and highlights Gumbo’s growing reputation among Africa’s elite refereeing personnel.

Gumbo is expected to join other selected officials from across the continent as CAF finalizes preparations for WAFCON 2026.
