Senegal made an impressive start to their 2026 CAVB Zone II Men’s Nations Championship campaign, defeating Cape Verde 3-0 at Stadium Hall in Banjul, The Gambia.

The Teranga Lions were pushed hard in the opening set but held their nerve to edge Cape Verde 26-24 before taking full control of the contest. Senegal dominated the following two sets 25-17 and 25-16 to secure a comfortable straight-sets victory.

Set Scores: 26-24, 25-17, 25-16.

Cape Verde matched Senegal point for point in a closely contested first set, but the West African side's composure in key moments proved decisive. With the breakthrough secured, Senegal raised their level through strong serving, effective blocking, and consistent attacking play to close out the match.

The victory sees Senegal collect maximum points and move to the top of the standings after the opening round of matches.

Cape Verde will aim to recover when they face hosts Gambia, while Senegal return to action against Guinea-Bissau as they continue their quest for Zone II glory.
