South Sudan Reach CECAFA U-17 Semi-Finals Despite Uganda Defeat

 





South Sudan booked their place in the semi-finals of the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship despite suffering a 4-0 defeat to Uganda in their final Group B fixture at the .

Already assured of a place in the knockout stage, the Junior Bright Starlets were unable to stop a clinical Ugandan side, with Shadia Nabirye scoring twice in the 29th and 62nd minutes. Justine Ayerango added further goals in the 54th and 73rd minutes as Uganda completed a perfect group-stage campaign.

The result sees Uganda finish top of Group B with nine points from three matches, while South Sudan advance as runners-up on six points after victories over Zanzibar and Djibouti.

Despite the setback, South Sudan can take confidence from a strong group-stage performance that secured a historic place in the last four of the regional tournament.

Uganda will now face Group A runners up Tanzania in the semi-finals, while South Sudan are set for a tough test against Group A winners Kenya as they bid to reach the final.
