Six-time champions Simba SC will make their long-awaited return to the CECAFA Kagame Club Cup when the 2026 edition kicks off in Kigali, Rwanda, from July 24 to August 7.

The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) confirmed that the tournament will feature 12 of the region’s strongest clubs, with 11 already confirmed and the final team set to be announced on July 6.

Matches will be played at the Kigali Pelé Stadium and Amphoro National Stadium, providing a key competitive platform for clubs ahead of the 2026 CAF interclub competitions scheduled for September.

CECAFA Interim Executive Director Jean Sseninde said the tournament remains an important stepping stone for clubs preparing for continental football.

“We are excited that this tournament will give our teams a platform ahead of the CAF competitions kicking off in September 2026,” Sseninde stated.

Confirmed teams include APR FC, Rayon Sports (Rwanda), Vipers SC (Uganda), El Merriekh SC and Al Hilal SC (Sudan), Gor Mahia (Kenya), Mogadishu City Club (Somalia), FC Garde Républicaine (Djibouti), KVZ (Zanzibar), and Jamus SC (South Sudan), alongside Simba SC’s return after missing the competition since 2018
