Yei Joint Stars Keep Bastawi's Status Under Wraps as CECAFA Preparations Continue

JUBA, South Sudan — Yei Joint Stars FC have declined to confirm whether Malakia SC fitness coach Jacob Monday, popularly known as Bastawi, is set to join the club, despite his appearance at the team's training session ahead of the CECAFA Women's Club Championship in August.

Bastawi was seen at the training session wearing a Future Stars Football Academy jersey, fueling speculation that he could be part of the South Sudan Women's Cup champions' technical setup for the regional tournament.

Sports Hunter South Sudan sought clarification from the club following reports linking the Malakia SC fitness coach with a move to Yei Joint Stars and asked whether the two parties had reached an agreement and if the club would formally approach Malakia SC to secure his services.

In response, a club official said the technical bench is still being finalized and that an announcement will be made before the end of the week.

"We are currently working on our technical bench and by the end of the week, we will avail the technical bench, that is to say the head coach, assistant head coach, fitness coach and goalkeeping coach," the official told Sports Hunter South Sudan.

The official added:

"As I indicated earlier on, we provide information on our technical bench at the right time. The media will be notified on this."

The club did not directly address whether Bastawi has agreed to join Yei Joint Stars or whether discussions have taken place with Malakia SC.

Yei Joint Stars are preparing to represent South Sudan at the CECAFA Women's Club Championship in August, with the club expected to unveil its full technical team in the coming days.
