JUBA, South Sudan — South Sudan Cup runners-up Al Ghazala S.C. Wau have officially appointed former South Sudan national team assistant coach Rizik Alphaza Hakim as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The experienced South Sudanese tactician joins the Wau-based club from El Merriekh FC Juba after signing a one-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season.

Confirming the appointment, Al Ghazala S.C. Wau said:

A former assistant coach of the South Sudan senior national team, Rizik brings a wealth of experience to Al Ghazala, having also coached El Merriekh FC Juba, Kator Fc, Jamus SC among others. His appointment signals the club's intent to strengthen its technical bench ahead of an important season.

Al Ghazala secured a place in the preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after finishing runners-up in the South Sudan Cup to El Merriekh S.C. Bentiu. El Merriekh also won the 2025/26 South Sudan Premier League to complete a domestic double and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

With continental football on the horizon, Al Ghazala will be hoping Rizik's leadership, tactical expertise, and national team experience will help the club compete strongly on both the domestic and African stages.
